Need help recording with a mic.

I am running Ubuntu 8.04, an SBLive5.1/SB0060 card, and I can record in Sound Recorder, but not Audacity or Ardour. Yes I know the program is very overpowered for what I’m trying to do now, but it’ll be right for what I’d like to do later, after I figure out what the heck is going on.

As best I can tell, Jack starts ok and appropriate connections are established, however, on the system tab after I click input on the mixer strip with my new track (a new track, not “master”) the only options available to me are capture_1 and capture_2, neither of which works and none of which has anything to do with a mic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:

in your mixer, set your mic as your capture source.

in qjackctl hook capture 1 and 2 to audio1 in1 for a mono audio1 track or capture 1 to audio1 in1 and capture 2 to audio1 in2 for a stereo audio1 track.

arm the track for recording and then click record then play and see if you can get anything in.

this would be easier in #ardour over at irc.freenode.net.
