I don’t know about anyone else, but I cannot play either of these on my browser… : /

Damn didn’t realize. What do you use to share files?

Ah, no, Dropbox (which I see now) is totally fine.
→ I had to just right-click, then use “Copy Audio Link”, and then go to your original URL(s) to hear these…

So it seems like this forum is trying to embed the audio directly here, but failing to do so, at least for me.

Question: What are you using to record these songs? -A laptop mic?

Fair question

Yeah these are initial mixes for learning Ardour, and DAWs in general. The guitar is recorded with a Zoom, but drums with tablet :frowning:

My buddy has a recorder I hopefully get to use next weekend for these songs. They also lack bass, but I recruited a bassist for the second song since.

I went ahead and edited the text to be links in the first two posts which should address this hopefully.

Heh! Reminds me of my teenage years when we only had a tape recorder (no offense but the sound quality and the playing do remind me of those days - late 80s, early 90s).

It’s good you start to get acquainted with Ardour. I would suggest a couple of things:

1- get a decent soundcard, does not have to be expensive but something with like 8 analog inputs (with preamps) that you can share with your friends and is supported by linux (if you use Ardour on linux)

2- get a few microphones, a few SM57s can go a long way for instrument recording (mic your guitar amp, mic your drums - kick, snare and overhead mics are the minimum). The bass can go directly to a DI (some soundcards have a DI input where you could plug your bass directly to it)

An alternative to a soundcard could be a relatively inexpensive analog mixer with 8 analog channels. You can then record the mixer’s stereo outputs to a good soundcard which then could have less IO (2 ins soundcards are relatively cheap).

Believe me, if you invest in such a minimal setup, your mix will be much much different. Good luck

Hey I get to use a Windows PC soon and bought a Focusrite 2i2 with a shure sm57 mic. I’ll be able to record guitar at home, both from amp, and straight into Ardour with Focusrite.
