I would like to control Ardour with midi from Ableton Live as master. I need start and stop, tempo change. The clips in the cue window stop on tempo change. The selected clips do not go into pause mode when stopped. They should start playing again at the start.
You would need to use MIDI Clock for this. Live as the clock source, Ardour set to use MIDI Clock as the transport master (with connections made appropriately).
I have no idea why you would want to do this. Live and Ardour can do (almost) everything that the other one can do. Using them combined in this way just seems to ask for trouble.
Ardour does not do “pause” in general, and certainly not for clips.
There are two of us and one person works with Linux. Unfortunately, Ableton does not run under linux. too bad, then I don’t know what to do. thanks for the answer
Also, note that MIDI Clock does not convey tempo change in any direct way. It sends a stream of MIDI events (24 per quarter note) so the rate of those events would change when the tempo does, but there’s no distinct “tempo change” indicator. Thus, the receiver will always little bit behind the sender when it comes to noticing a tempo change.
