Midi stops working after some minutes with Ardour 7 & 8 on Windows 11

Hi!

Since some time (or some Windows Updates  ) Ardour does not recognize any MIDI input from my midi controllers (M-Audio Keystation 49e & Nektar Impact GX61). Even after the restart of Ardour 8.10.0 the input does not work anymore. Only after a Windows reboot they come back to live for some time. During the outage, they still show up as devices and can be selected/deselected for input.
Unfortunately I can not check, if it is Windows or Ardour related, as I do not have any other software in place to check it out (any recommendations?)

Is this a known issue with Windows 11 or Ardour? If you need more info, do not hesitate to ask.

Hi,

Do those devices have manufacturer (ASIO) drivers or other driver utilities? If so are they up to date? I’ve found that some hardware will kinda work on Windows without drivers but a lot of things don’t fully work without their dedicated drivers (if they exist).

These devices never had any drivers with them.

Ok, I checked the functionality as suggested on the Nektar homepage to use a tool like MIDI-OX to check it out. Using it alone after a reboot of Windows seems to work fine. When I use Ardour, the co0nnection breaks again after a wile and also does not work anymore on MIDI-OX.

Ich will play around with MIDI-OX a little further to see, if I could break the connection with this tool as well…

Well, as I wrote it and tried it after a reboot, the connection broke on MIDI-OX as well. So it is clrearly some Windows 11 issue. :-/

I was able to resolve the problem btw. Ichecked the trouble shooting page of the Nektar midi controler and found out, that this does not like to be connected via usb hub. Works fine now with direct connection to the system.

Thanx!
