MIDI Editor as a separate application

This might be a dumb idea.

But, instead of integrating a MIDI editor into Ardour, how about developing the MIDI editor as an entirely separate application that you connect to Ardour?

Any thoughts?

this was discussed in great detail and depth on IRC yesterday. its not going to happen.
