Sorry if this one is very obvious for you, but I’m a very beginner with DAWs and plugins, and couldn’t find a solution on the forum/web.
So, I have a drum plugin (Ugritone), which I use on a MIDI track.
The plugin let’s you split the different parts of the kit on multiple outputs.
I tried to connect it to AUDIO TRACKs, but didn’t worked.
So I tried it with MIDI TRACKs, now they get signal.
My problem is that they only get a signal if the main MIDI track (which plays the whole kit) is not muted.
But obviously I don’t want to hear the full kit playing while I want to play with the faders of the separate tracks.
How should I do that?
This should also work with audio tracks?
If I’m searching on the right place, I don’t have this option:
In the plugin you can select the multiple outputs.
I checked the fanning option before and after I selected the multiple outputs in the plugin, and also when I manually connected the MIDI track output the separate audio tracks, but it didn’t appeared in any of the cases.
What i found with Sitala is if you choose automatic at the first prompt, you dont get a fan out option in the right click of the track name (in the mixer window).
So you must:
Right click on the plugin and choose Pin connections. Then in the dialog you see a button on the left, marked automatic. Change that to X channels
Then right click the track name again and 2 fan out options appear: to busses or tracks
The mixer channels will appear when you choose
Hope this helps
Maybe its to do with strict i/o?
Your drum plugin is only putting stereo out for audio. You would need to determine if they can give multiple audio outputs (One for each drum for instance).
In the Urgitone plugin, you have to select multiple outs. It defaults to stereo output. It will fan out, but only use the first channel as stereo until you select multiple outs. To change to multiple outs, there is a box in the lower right of the Urgitone GUI that has a drop down with a few options for output.
But in your picture, it only shows two outputs. It should have shown multiple outputs if it was fanned out properly. Are you selecting the proper fan out option ? Try the max option just to see what happens.
I know the VST3 version works. I have not tried the VST version. Are you using the VST3 or VST version of the plug in ?
It would be easiest just to add a new MIDI track instead of trying to modify the existing track.
I selected the multiple outputs in the plugin, but there’s still no fan out option in ardour. I tried many variations.
Can the VST & VST3 version make a differenc?
Well I either accept this and use the plugins mixer to adjust things, or I separate the different kit parts in different MIDI files and tracks.
Or a take a deep breath, update my Ardour, and hoping everything will work fine and also it solves this issue. It was enough traume for me to make this version work!
The option to fan out will only appear once when the new MIDI track is added. I do not think you can get that popup any other way.
Maybe. The VST2 version did not offer more than one option for multiple outs (32 outs) when I checked.
What OS and what version of Ardour ?
The Urgitone plugin works well on windows. Linux is not supported, but can be download, and has not worked well enough to use for me with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
Ardour now should create the Drum Midi track plus 32 instrument tracks
(here you can add instrument specific effects if you want to)
Step 3. Open the Ugritone plugin
Go to the Ugritone MIDI track and open the plugin. (double click)
In the plugin go to field “Output Routing” bottom right. I selected Megamix 15 outputs
In the image of the drums you can right click on any of the drums or cymbals and you should
hear the sound
see the meter in one if the output channels
Step 4. Clean up
rename the outputs to kick, snare, …
remove the unused outputs
Conclusion
This was a quick proof of concept. There might be better ways to do that.
It works on my setup.
However, …
… if you are a beginner I recommend using the stereo output version (default) of the kits
There is plenty of knobs inside where you can tweak volume, EQ etc …
Even I use the stereo version now, whereas in earlier projects I had separated outputs (e .g.
with the AVL drum kits)
There are many presets, chances are that one of them fits the song you are working on.
Anyway …
If you want to experiment (learn) with multiple outputs I strongly recommend the AVL drumkits which
come in 3 flavours plus percussion set
Are you inserting the drum box into a midi track?
Try making a fresh midi track with a different multitrack midi instrument, eg drumgizmo (free)
repeat the fan out process as previously described. Remember to right click the track name not the plugin to get the Fan out options
If it works this time Urgitone is the problem, if not you may be doing something else wrong
I tested my other drum plugins and the two other has the “fan out” option.
Then I noticed that those are VST2 plugins, but the Ugritone is VST3!
Ardour doesn’t allow to use the VST2 version if it detects the VST3 (If I read correctly).
So I uninstalled Ugritones, reinstalled it, hided the VST3 to a different folder, and finally, it works!
Thank you for your patience!
As I said I’m a very beginner, but I learned quit a little bit about troubleshooting!
