Make template with no click track and auditioner

I’d like to create a template that does not automagically connect the click track and auditioner to an output.

I have (I think) disconnected them then saved a template. But when I create a new session with the template, it shows up with the click and auditioner connected.

It’s probably me…I have not used Ardour for a few years.

Version:
Ardour 8.12.0~ds

Debian Trixie

I think that’s a bug (an old one, I believe…). Click is always connected to the first hardware outputs, no matter what one saves. That’s annoying on a multichannel output if you want to route the click to another channel than the normal audio.

I’ve just updated this for upcoming Ardour 9.6.

Session-wide global ports (Auditioner, Metronome/Click, LTC generator) are now saved per backend and interface.

The idea is that if you use a USB soundcard with many outputs, those signals go to different ports compared to using laptop’s main out while traveling. The connections are now restored depending on which device is used.

This also makes sessions more portable: Metronome and Auditioning is a local system/studio setup and no longer carried over to other systems with the session.

…but when these outputs are not connected (e.g. initially for a new interface), they are assigned to the first two physical outputs by default. So there is a wrinkle that manual disconnect will lead to the port being re-connected. Then again I don’t think this to be an issue since the metronome can simply be disabled and the use of the auditioner is optional. So either connect them correctly or don’t use them
