Main differences in 2.4 vs. SVN 3.0?

Hello,

I’ve browsed the development pages here and while I understand version 3.0 is still very beta I am curious as to what the main differences are vs. the current 2.4. I realize it will be unstable, but is it relatively useable? I have a great thing going here with 2.4 but curiosity is killing me about the MIDI stuff etc, Will 3.0 compile as easily as 2.4?

3 compiles quite well usually, although i haven’t had success in getting it to work with the vst support (haven’t tried in a while though). i also remember it didn’t like my current sessions, so i had to start new ones from scratch. i think they changed the session file format a bit.

apart from that i had no issues with it, just needed vst support so i went back to 2.x branch.

porl,

Thanks for your reply, I am running 64bit so VST support is out for me anyway, The session file change is a little concerning though. I think I’ll just be smart (for once) and leave well enough alone.

Hello!

I’m just curious about if it is possible to install
ardour 3 in parallel to 2.x without disturbing the 2.x installation ? Do I have to give parameters for target directories to scons?

thanks
Jürgen

There is no reason to install ardour3 right now, and I even think installation may be impossible.

You can simply run your 3.0 svn from gtk2_ardour/ardev

So,

$ cd 3.0/gtk2_ardour
$ ./ardev
