Limiters for ardour

hello

i’ve been using the calf limiter for some time but the gui no longer seems to work with ardour 8.12.

i had a look at the tap limiters, but these don’t really seem to have the features i need.
can anyone suggest other options for limiters in ardour?

thanks.

First thing I usually do in a new session is to add x42 Digital Peak Limiter to he master bus.

It’s very natural sounding, even when pushed hard, if I may say so myself, and the default settings are fine as-is (only on occasion input gain need tweaking).

I second that. I do the same.

thanks for the quick replies, will give this a try.

PS. on most GNU/Linux distros that plugin is packaged as part of x42-plugins package.

The x42 digital peak limiter is great and may be all you need, but just in case you want some additional options, here are a few other plugin suites that include limiters:

thank you, will have a look at these too.

I think Robin’s x42 limiter and the LSP ones (I’ve not used the Zam one but the other Zamaudio plugins rock) are probably the best for all situations.

But if you enjoy exploring limiters / clippers (and compressors) then I’ll muddy the waters further and suggest looking at some Airwindows plugins, namely ADClip8 or Pressure5 or NC-17 or ClipOnly2 (which is just a control-less safety clipper but sounds so good to my ears).

thanks for your help.

Chris from Airwindows has some good limiters as well. ClipSoftly is probably the simplest one there is.

thanks again everyone for all your input. really appreciate the community here!

i’ve started using robin gareus’ x42 Digital Peak Limiter. this works well for me.
