"Launchpad Pro Pads" port doesn't output MIDI in custom mode

I was trying to program a custom mode for my Launchpad Pro and noticed that the MIDI notes in my custom mode are not sent out on the “Launchpad Pro Pads” port, only on the “LPProMK3 MIDI” port. But if I switch my Launchpad to “Note” or “Chord Mode”, the notes are put out on the “Launchpad Pro Pads” MIDI port as well.

I have always used the “Launchpad Pro Pads” port for input before since I have never needed custom mode before. Was that wrong? Should I have used the dedicated MIDI output port before? If so, what is the “Launchpad Pro Pads” port used for?

Yes.

The other output is mainly useful for the so-called “DAW” mode*, where a software controls what layout the launchpad is using and what pads light up etc.

* At least it’s called “DAW” mode on the Launchpad X.
