i just compiled ardour 8.11 on my german fedora installation. ardour starts, but i am not able to switch to german language.
i have set my environment variables:
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=de_DE.UTF-8
but ardour always starts in english. where is my mistake?

Gotta ask, but have you tried Preferences > User interaction > Use Translations and seen if it’s enabled?
Our build system will not create or install the “message catalogs” needed for translation without extra steps being taken by you. You would need to run ./waf i18n at the top level, before installing.
We generally recommend against installing, and instead using the gtk2_ardour/ardev script (that’s certainly what we do as developer/self-builders)
