Jack/RT/Audio connection problems.

Hi folks. I cannot for the life of me get Jack to connect. I’m running
Linux Mint 7 with the following kernel installed. I’m just testing this
with an on-board card at present but I do intend to use a M-Audio 2496.

Here is what I have so far. Sorry this is long, many apologies.

==================================

KERNEL installed:
linux-rt-headers-2.6.31-9_2.6.31-9.152_all.deb
linux-headers-2.6.31-9-rt_2.6.31-9.152_i386.deb
linux-image-2.6.31-9-rt_2.6.31-9.152_i386.deb

I did run some checks here…

Ran: uname -a
Currently running Rt Kernel confirmed.
Linux USERNAME-desktop 2.6.31-9-rt #152-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT RT Thu Oct 15
05:01:14 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Finding out whether you’re running an rt kernel?
Looked at Kernel config (Hope this is the right one?)
usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.31-39-rt

Here is what I have in my config file.

CONFIG_HZ=1000

CONFIG_HZ_100 is not set

CONFIG_HZ_1000=y

CONFIG_HZ_250 is not set

CONFIG_HZ_300 is not set

Ran the ‘groups’ command and got.
USERNAME adm dialout cdrom plugdev lpadmin admin sambashare
After this I found that there was no AUDIO group so added one.

Now it reads.
USERNAME adm dialout fax cdrom tape dip video plugdev fuse lpadmin
netdev admin sambashare audio

Many thanks folks.

This is all well and good… but it would be better to know what the error message is when you try to start Jack and it says it can’t connect.

Seablade
In the message box for Jack I suppose right?

If you are using QJackCTL to start Jack, yes.

     Seablade

Jack could not connect to client as server and a permission error.
I have since got it working.

Pretty difficult to know what to post since that message is pretty vague frankly.

Thanks!

No worries.
Where can I find that on Linux? In the message box for Jack I suppose right? I’m really glad it did work in any case. My 2496 M-Audio card now registers too so I am looking forward to playing with Ardour with a view on making it my recording system.

Many thanks for your reply SeaBlade.

Well you need to post the log of it starting if you don’t see a specific error message, as seems to be the case in your instance;)
