I’m asking the community oracles whether anyone can point me to a MIDI plugin that can provide a GUI for 20 to 50 CC controllers that could be allocated to SoftSynths and/or external Sound Module control?
Ardour does kinda provide a mechanism via CC automation that I have been using when I run out of controllers on my hardware controller. But Ardour has limits (only two?) to how many CC automation sliders it will display at one time.
My case is for playing around with and finding Organ sound settings - where there are probably nearly a hundred different MIDI CC that affect many different sound parameters. I only need to play around with the controllers once until I can identify what I like. Then they can be set in stone with a MIDI region CC event. So I was hoping not to have to purchase another hardware controller interface.
I’ve been Googling and searching for a simple MIDI GUI plugin that just displays knobs & sliders and allows them to be assigned to CCs. But so far I’m surprised that I have not found such a plugin.
Hmm - interesting.
Maybe it is the way Ardour deals with Controllers with the same name? For example - for setBfree there are separate Expression/Swell for Upper, Lower & Pedals. However, even if I select the three different controllers - only one is shown in Ardour.
I tried the same with my external Organ sound module and it was the same. I’ll have to dig deeper as to why. I will see if changing the midnam descriptions will help.
The MIDI CC data could come from anywhere - I was hoping for easy physical/GUI access. For example the SoftSynth Organ setBfree has over 50 controllers for drawbars, vibrato, reverb, overdrive etc… The external Organ sound module I have has many more. In the case of setBfree it has a GUI of sorts. For my external Organ sound module - it just responds to MIDI CC messages.
So I can either have a physical controller or a software controller creating the MIDI CC messages. I have a controller keyboard with pots & faders… but it only has a limited number of controllers - definitely not enough.
So I was wondering if there was a MIDI plugin somewhere with just GUI dials & sliders that could have MIDI CCs assigned which would augment the physical pots & faders I have on the keyboard.
There is no plugin comming to my mind, but my general recommendation to wrestle control in a flexible way is open stage control. It even allows you to create touch control surfaces, that you can load on a mobile phone or tablet. Hope this helps, but to me it sounds like just what you are looking for.
I use it to access the hidden parameters inside one of my synths.
