If you install Ardour and the Desktop file always warns you about the file not being marked executable, just chmod 755 Ardour_8.6.0.desktop (or whatever version of Ardour you have). Do this as your normal user. Next time you launch Ardour, there should be an extra button to mark it as executable. Click on that, and you’re all set.
