Using Ardour 9.2 on Manjaro Linux.
I tried to search for clips on Freesound from Ardour and it doesn’t give me any results no matter what I prompt it with. I have a Freesound account, but I have not been asked to provide the details thereof (and I guess it is not necessary at the search stage).
On a related(?) note: I can’t even download additional clips from the third party sources that came with Ardour. Clicking on the desired clip seems to momentarily start the download, but immediately stops and does not download anything.
Has anyone encounter such problems?
Thank you for your help!
Downloading with our Library Manager seems to work fine from here. I would guess a network connection issue of some kind, though these are unlikely.
Freesound appears to have some issues right now, that are not related to Ardour itself.
Thank you for the quick reply.
Regarding Freesound search, is there a way for me to reach the root cause of this malfunction? I can download clips directly from the site through my browser, so there is a workaround, but I would like to use it from within Ardour.
Regarding the second issue (using the Loop Download Manager), it turns out that I can download some of the loops, but not others. For instance, I downloaded successfully the Lenox BeatMaker Synth clips, but I am unable to download any of the Lenox BeatMaker Electric Guitar loops. I thought that maybe it has to do with the size of the package, but I can download other larger loops from the list, so that’s not it. Maybe there are broken links there?
Thank you again.
It seems to be working again, from inside ardour (at least searching and redirecting to login).
They got info on their website about the problems and what is gonna happen next.
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I still can’t get it to work using “Import Audio/MIDI files…” dialog (“Search Freesound” tab). Is there something that I may be missing? I could not find any relevant configuration setting (outside of cache location, but that doesn’t seem to matter). I guess that they still need to iron things out.
Can you please check if you see the problems that I am seeing with the Loop Download Manager? I can’t download any of the Lenox BeatMaker Electric Guitar loops, but other loops seem fine. I suspect broken links, but want to make sure it’s not a “Me” problem.
Thank you so much for your help.
Freesound is still under maintenance as per their website.
I just tried installing Lenox BeatMaker Electric Guitar 1 and it worked without issue.
Thank you.
I think I have a hunch on a possible cause for the problem. Prior to upgrading my version using the regular release cycle, I was curious regarding the new version and installed it using flatpack. I remember having tried to download some loops unsuccessfully. I am not sure where those loops are stored and how to get rid of the corrupted downloads, but maybe there is some collision between the flatpack and the usual version. I will try to explore this direction. Helpful tips are most welcomed.
Thank you again.
Update: Freesound seems to be somewhat working (searching on the site itself provides different results than through Ardour). Still no joy on the loop manager front. I deleted the Flatpack version along with its data, but still the same behavior: Clicking on “Install” seems to start the process and immediately stops. The relevant compressed file created in the ~/.local/share/sounds is zero length. Any suggestions on how to proceed are welcomed.
It works here, but that doesn’t really help you a lot.
While i don’t know what might be the root of your problem (with install from loop-manager), what i tend to try in such cases , to troubleshoot it in general is such:
a) i move the config file of ardour to a backup, so i can start with a default configuration file ( like "mv ~/.config/ardour9 ~/.config/ardour9_backup). Assuming that solves the problem, something in my config is wrong. If highly configured it obviously is important to not do it wrong with creating and restoring the config-backup file. Bit of caution is required ![]()
b) similar approach is to quickly create a new user and see if the same problem happens to him. As said, all it will tell too if the default config has the same problem (in some cases for me it gives info about DE/WM used, pointless in the given case)
And you could have a look if something in permission settings for ~/.local/share/sounds/clips is screwed. ususal ls -l.
You could also try to set a different location for clips-library.
Obvious things, sure. But all i have to offer. Good luck.
Your help is greatly appreciated regardless of the outcome…
Anyway, it is not a configuration thing (I did as you suggested). The permissions also seem fine (and I made sure that the sounds folder and its sub-folders are with the correct permissions and owner).
I guess I will have to live with this mystery - it’s not critical, but rather a convenience matter.
Thanks to all that helped!
