Import sf2 in dialog box

I deleted all the paths and scanned them again, but then everything disappeared and no new ones appeared

Do you have your LV2 plugins in your ~/.lv2 folder?

yes

Try to click on Re-Scan All button

I tried this but the plugins are still not visible. if I copy folders from the /.lv2 folder and move them to another location, then ardour sees them, but writes that there is an error. Okay, apparently there is a bug in the operating system itself. Thanks for your help

Permissions problems?

You cut off your path in the picture that was posted.

It should not be in the / directory , but in your user home directory. ~/.lv2. . Lv2 installed from repository get put in another directory. I do not recall what directory that is and cannot check at the moment. But it may be something like /usr/lib/lv2

.lv2 in the picture is located in the home directory and is automatically installed there. I checked the usr/lib/ directories, etc. They’re all empty. There are no plugins. I’m starting to suspect that there is a problem with the directory paths in the ubuntu system itself.

LV2 plugins are unconditionally indexed at application start.
They do not require scanning. Only VSTs need that.

No, it doesn’t work for me.

I think we need to take a few steps backward here…

Where are these LV2 Plugins coming from? If you (a) Use the supported Ardour from this website and (b) Install your LV2 Plugins with a proper Package Manager there is actually no way this all can’t work… Putting loose LV2 Plugins in ~/.lv2 is fine but you need to be careful about the file and folder permissions. If you just install at least one set of LV2 Plugins from your Package Manager and at least try the demo version of Ardour from ardour.org you will see everything ‘just works’ and then you can work outward from there.

also, and more simply, open a terminal window and run lv2ls

if that doesn’t show any or some plugins, installation is incorrect.

I installed the demo version from here and the plugins worked. Indeed, the version from the ubuntu 24.04 repositories is not working. Thanks for solving the problem!

Yikes, a distro version of Ardour not loading LV2 plugins is a pretty significant packaging mistake, if that is indeed the cause. You may want to file a bug report with Ubuntu’s maintainers. It is always best to get Ardour from this site, but a major distro such as Ubuntu LTS should get it right and be notified if there is a problem.

Thanks for the answers. Problem solved

Agree, I don’t keep a regular tab on such things but when there is mention of a packaged version of Ardour not working more often than not… They’ll probably do snaps of it now if they aren’t already and doubtless the usual Plugin locations will no longer work as in the Flatpak version…

I used to use soundfonts for my drums, which are ok, but very generic. Now I like DrumGizmo because it has real sounding samples.

https://drumgizmo.org/wiki/doku.php?id=kits

Download a kit and when you load drum gizmo, right click and insert the midi file, such as one from: Download Free MIDI Drum Files – MIDI Drum Files

Then you have to select the drumgizmo channel, look at the strip in the top left and double click the drum gizmo plugin in your chain and it should pop up with a dialog to let you select the drum kit you downloaded (you’ll usually see Kitname_default or whatever) and select the kit and mapping (match them up, default, full, small, etc).

Once you load that up your DrumGizmo should output to your master bus and presto…you can edit drums in the piano roll. Or just download some from that url I gave above.

It’s really a nice drum machine (I’ve also used a few other that are external to Ardour, using the patchbay)

Hope this helps, I know you figured out your issue already, but this option is still a good one.
