How to send MIDI CC Messages for any CC number

I’m using the General MIDI plugin in a MIDI track to control a hardware synth and want to send CC automation events for CC numbers that don’t appear when I view the Automation > Controllers list for the MIDI track.

Is it possible to use CC automation for CC numbers other than the list of [1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 37, 64, 65, 66, 68, 91, 93] that I can see in the automation GUI for the MIDI track? E.g. CC 74.

The list appears to depend on the particular MIDI instrument plugin you have there (they all expose a different set of controllers). If you select no MIDI instrument to be automatically added when you create a MIDI track (or delete the one you already added), you will have the full list of controllers in Automation. Which is not necessarily how you want this to work :frowning:

I thought this had been fixed, what version of Ardour are you using?

I’m using Ardour 8.12

Ok looks like it’s the same issue I brought up a while back. When you select the instrument it selects a configuration file that sets the available CC mapping.

In my opinion it should default to a generic map that shows all CCs (or at least a generic map should be an option, but it isn’t). So you need to select a map that contains the CC mapping you want, and there is no way to know that without going through them all and looking.

The Yamaha > AN1X option seems to be a good choice, unless you need CC32.

The best choice for what the poster wants is, I think, MMA > Generic (this is just generic MIDI, no particular instrument at all).

Yeah that looks good. What does MMA stand for?

MIDI Manufacturers Association

It might be a good idea for us to edit the MIDNAM file so that it shows up with a different name.
