In my opinion, there should simply be “Insert Bar(s)” and “Remove Bar(s)” options added to the drop-down menu when you right-click over a bar/measure like so:
That would be great.

(-Also refactoring the Tempo Map creation code to be vastly more efficient and responsive. : P)

Yes, using the remove time function with the “move tempo and time signature changes” box checked causes ardour to lock up/crash for me also.
