How to continue transport / playback when nudging the playhead?

On my Ardour the playhead can be moved with Left, Right, Alt+Left and Alt+Right to skip forward and backward

However, when I do this playback stops. I’d like it to continue, because when you skip forwards or backwards you don’t expect playback to stop.

Is there an option to change this?

In the top level menu, you will find Transport > Auto Play

just a general recommendation to use first person (“I don’t expect”) for statements like this. After 20+ years in DAW land, I can assure you that what people expect is definitely not just one thing.

Interesting. I just tried on the Windows version and playback doesn’t stop when skipping/nudging the playhead with the arrow keys, whether Auto Play is turned on or off. Is there any other setting that affects this?
