How to build for Windows on Debian?

I’m trying to build Ardour for my Windows computer but Ardour lacks support for compiling on windows natively, so I used WSL Debian to compile and it works. Now I wanted to compile a binary for Windows instead of Linux, can anyone tell me how to configure this?

Compiling for windows is NOT simple. It is done currently via mingw on linux I believe. Sorry it is the version even I have not compiled personally.

What’s wrong with the supported binaries from here? You can build whatever you like but it’s not supported and I would guess that would go double for Windows because I don’t know of anybody here who even does this outside of the developers. A few bucks to support the cause isn’t a good value vs. the many hours of trial and error it will take to learn how to build for Windows?

Configuring isn’t the difficult part, it is building every required library.

If you are doing this as an academic exercise, Godspeed Good Fellow on the long road ahead. Others may give you pointers along the way, but there is no step-by step tutorial.

If you merely want to use Ardour and save money, you can pay as little as a $1 for a copy of the current Windows version. If hours and hours of your time is worth more to you than a dollar, you would actually be saving money by paying for the pre-built binary rather than attempting to build it yourself.

If you won’t pay because you refuse to use PayPal for whatever reason, Godspeed Good Fellow on the long road ahead. Others have gone before you and gotten lost along the way, never to be heard from again, but perhaps you’ll succeed where they failed.
