You have to make sure you are completely up to date with OS X as it was the most recent update that included libcurl that Ardour is looking for. This may mean downloading and reinstalling the 10.4.11 update from the website if software update doesn’t show any available updates IIRC. For some reason OS X doesn’t always show that it isn’t up to date in that regards.
@firstname.lastname@example.org: as noted at http://ardour.org/first_time_osx_native (which you were requested to read on the download page), it notes that you must have all system updates installed to run Ardour, precisely because of changes that Apple made to Tiger.
