How do I normalize sound level for an entire track

is there a technique for doing this? Thanks.

Well for what you typed the answer would be right click, and go in the menu to select normalize on any selected regions, and you can do multiple at once. However why don’t you explain what you mean by ‘normalize’ as I find many people don’t understand the meaning of that word in this context and I suspect you may be referring to volume leveling.

Thank you Seablade. I have been out of town for a few days so I am just now getting back to this project. Can I assume that you are referring to the “loudness assistant” function located under the “session” menu? Yes I was basically wanting to do a volume level at this point. I suspect normalization is used for final export after mixing? Anyway how would I apply a volume leveling affect to an entire track? Thank you.

Normalization is about applying the same amount of gain across an entire region or track, it doesn’t sound like what you are looking for.

What you seem to be looking for is either volume automation, or in some cases dynamic range compression. Both of these are topics in themselves, particularly compression, so lets start with volume automation, which allows you to apply changes in parameters, in this case your volume fader for a track, across time that is repeatable.

Starting Point would be here:
