How do i... mute tracks with sends but keep the send?

Not sure if this should be a “how do i” or a bug report, but what i’m trying to accomplish should be pretty simple and straightforward.

So, i have a mixer that looks like this, as you can see there are vocal tracks (1 lead, 2 harmonies) a piano track, and a guitar track which all have a pre-effects send to another track “voc+pno+gtr raw” (ignore bass/synth/etc) I want to A/B between the output of these 3 tracks to the master, and that “raw” track which receives the pre-effect signal from the actual voc/piano/guitar tracks, in other words quickly A/B between the voice/piano/guitar with and without effects.

The problem is that the post-send output is still sent to the master even if those tracks are muted, and/or the “voc+pno+gtr raw” track is soloed. Corroborated by the fact that i only hear the raw unprocessed voc/piano/guitar when i disconnect their tracks from the master and keep only the raw track.

…am i missing something, or is this not how it’s supposed to work?

Right click early, right click often.

In this case, right click on the mute button.

Thanks for your quick reply!

but… nope. by default all the elements are ticked except “pre fader sends” …i can’t get the tracks to mute when voc+pno+gtr-raw is soloed with any combination.

If you solo a bus, it will always implicitly solo all the tracks that feed it because otherwise there’s no point soloing it.

If you mute a bus, it will do nothing to the tracks that feed it, because your action only suggests that you do not wish to hear the bus.

I’m not sure why you think this ought to be easy, but would like to hear more.

I think this is the subtlety i don’t understand. The tracks that feed it (through a send) should still be heard in the soloed track from the send at that point in the mixer (in this case dry without the effects) but the “feeding” or source track shouldn’t be completely unmuted… at least in the way i believe makes sense…?
