I want to at least buy Ardour (because there are no instructions for building under Win, and I finally gave up without strength), but my country doesn’t support PayPal (even more I’ll say: I can’t pay with dollars or euros at all).
There is no option other than paypal…
So one option there is that you could ask someone in the chat to share their binary with you (which is entirely valid with Ardour’s GPL license).
Linux Mint recently added Stripe as an alternative to paypal. Maybe this is an option for Ardour too?
"This was done to make it easier for people who couldn’t or didn’t want to donate via PayPal. More countries and more bank cards are supported by Stripe and no account registration is necessary."
I think the problem with stripe is the higher fees for micro transactions. Here are a couple of suggestions:
- Use stripe and put a higher minimum payment amount for people who use that method.
- Setup a Patreon or KoFi Ardour page where people can subscribe in exchange for binaries.
This comes up every year like x-mas
Setting up an alternative payment processor and integrating it with subscriptions, nightly access, download system etc, is a lot of work, and the expected benefit of that compared to paypal is below zero at this time. See also https://ardour.org/faq.html#why-paypal
…besides for the issue at hand, stripe or patreon won’t help for countries where PayPal is not available due to bank regulations or international sanctions/embargos. Other payment processors also need to follow the same laws.
Paypal - I hate using it because they refuse to allow me to select the source of funds - I only use the bank account I tie to it to pay Paypal’s credit card and you’re the ONLY platform forcing me to use Paypal. This means I have to deal with a platform that sucks to support a platform I love and I’ve had enough. I hope you look at alternatives - maybe even bitcoin. Might I suggest stripe.com? they even have tons of support for open-source ventures to reduce fees. PLEASE!!!
