I accidentally have pressed a shortcut and now the “Home” (Go to start) shortcut doesn’t work anymore. “Go to start” in the GUI menu Transport > Playhead > Go to start doesn’t work either.
I checked the Keyboard Shortcut manager: The shortcut “Home” is still bound to “Go to start”
The start and end marker are in the right places
but either way by shortcut input nor by GUI menu can I set the curser back to start. I can only manually drag it to the start.
I can’t recall that I ever had issues with the “Home” shortcut before so I assume me fat-fingering some shortcut messed something up. I guess I pressed Shift+Enter but I’m not sure because I just slipped on the keys by accident.
I already restarted Ardour but the problem still persists.
What did I do and more importantly how can I undo it?
Assuming this is indeed a shortcut/configuration problem, you can close Ardour, move ~/.config/ardour8 somewhere else, and start Ardour again.
AFAIK when this directory is not present it should be generated at the program start. Check if the problem is still there. If Ardour works normally, you can compare if your original ~/.config/ardour8/ardour.keys and the newly generated differ.
(I am not completely sure if the ardour.keys is generated every time or just when you make changes to the default.)
I moved ardour.keys out of the way and restarted Ardour but it didn’t change anything.
I also looked into ardour.keys and the binding for <Binding key="Home" action="Transport/GotoStart"/>
is actually there, it just doesn’t work for whatever reason.
The shortcut for <Binding key="End" action="Transport/GotoEnd"/>
works perfectly however.
In fact all shortcuts work except for “Home”, so it’s not a general problem, just this specific one.
I recall having an issue like this a few years ago, but I’m not able to find it either here nor on mantis. And I don’t remember the resolution. What version are you using? And I assume it’s Linux based on your ID.
