I don’t want to be too harsh, but that’s a few pages of information that is of no use whatsoever.

You’ve said nothing about:

  • the error
  • the version of Ardour
  • which audio/MIDI backend you are using in Ardour

These are all much more important significant than the output of lspci.

Sorry for the wrong info error is failed to start audio engine with alsa backend version 5.12

(1) 5.12 is old at this point. Current release is 6.3
(2) Start it from a terminal window and paste the output that this generates.

here is the output

It’s been a while since I ran my PCI RME, but my memory is you need to set the sample rate in hdspconf first, then set Ardour or Jack to use the same sample rate, otherwise it won’t start as it couldn’t set the sample rate. Have you already done this?

Yes i have ardour defaults to 48 and i have it set at 44.1

Just tried again ardour starts but not connected to audio engine

All I can offer at this point is to try 6.3 and see if it has the same problem. We’re not really going to put effort into debugging issues with 5.12 …

http://nightly.ardour.org has the absolute most current version, http://ardour.org/download will let you get a free/demo copy to check out.

Thank you will try latest

So obviously you change Ardour to 44.1 then before you hit start?

If hdspconf is finding your device, and presumably hdspmixer is as well, the issue is in your settings. AVLinux usually sets up proper realtime privileges for you, have you confirmed your user is in the audio group? (Not sure if avlinux does this for you or not).

Have you tried starting Jack with the HDSP seperately?

Hi,

Sorry I can’t comment specifically on that hardware, I don’t have it to test but indeed a typical AVL install should have the user in the audio group as well as all the usual RT privileges…

Thanks for the confirmation Glen!
