I use KDE Plasma’s audio widget for day to day switching between my speaker DAC and headphone DAC. There’s some communication between that widget and every other program I use, so every other program is happy to switch, but Ardour like to stick with what I set up in qpwgraph (i.e. pipewire, through an interface). Is there a way to get Ardour to go with the default instead, except for the instances where I open up qpwgraph and start rearranging things?
No, Ardour sees itself as a pro-audio/music creation application, and does not try to follow “desktop settings” for audio because a lot of the time (we think the majority) they’re not relevant.
Would not be hard to use a script to rewire it though, and likely trigger that from your plasma setup.
