GUI frame rate / GPU issue

I believe the general GUI frame rate is too much for my laptop, that has Intel HD520 graphics chip.

I can sense that inline view of certain plug-ins like VU meter from Robin looks insanely smooth, whereas in Reaper, it is somewhat skippy.

When I switch to Edit view, I get less CPU load in general. Is the GUI framerate limited somehow? Reaper has, for example, meters update frequency in Hz.

I get glitchy meter rendering in the Mixer.

On top of that, any mouse action or application switch puts a really heavy load on the DSP, with a lot of xruns.

That sounds like your system needs tweaking. That should have no effect at all on DSP. The graphics card and HID should not be able to interfere with audio I/O.

The good news is Intel drivers (as opposed to nvidia) can actually be preempted and heed priority to audio. Assuming you’re running GNU/Linux, search for rtirq.

PS. Do you use a USB mouse and USB soundcard? That may also explain dropouts if the share the same USB bus and USB IRQ.

Nah, it’s bluetooth. But in general, any GUI action for any software causes sound problems. Even with browser audio.

Hopefully you mean the mouse, and not that you are using bluetooth earphones to monitor.
The bluetooth adapter may be connected with USB, so the concern would still apply.
