Getting Ardour to work on Ubuntu

hi

im planning on dowloading Ardour and am wanting to use it on Ubuntu.

Will the download for OS’s apart from OS X work straight away???

please help, I have no idea!

thanks

You will need to compile the download of Ardour from source - there are instructions for doing this on the download page, but there are already pre-built binaries for most ubuntu versions in the ubuntu repositories. Usually you can install one of these using the package manager in ubuntu or from the command line:

sudo apt-get install ardour

you could also add the ubuntustudio repository to your system, that way you’ll have a more recent version of ardour and a lot more sound software available in general.

ubuntustudio is included in the ubuntu repos since hardy (at least), so there’s no need to add extra repos. Lookup my post in this forum called “Ardour Pro for Karmic” to find a packaged version of the most recent ardour with lv2 support (and the external ui patch) so you can use the excellent linuxdsp and invada plugins to work on your projects.

ok, didn’t know that…
