On a fresh install of Ardour coming with Ubuntu Studio, I find that the General Midi Synth is missing on my system. I tried to install it from this source without success. Other installed plugins work. Any idea what is happening?
Most distros do not include it because of concerns about licensing issues.
Just sosya know…
Ubuntu Studio’s Ardour packaging will not be supported by the Ardour developers and will also be missing the ACE Plugin UI’s. Always best to get Ardour right from here, fully supported with all the nice extras included…
The easiest and most reliable way to get genuine and original Ardour as a ready-to-install version is ardour.org . At the same time, you can support development work and get to know other users and developers.
Thanks all. I already support the work of the team. I just thought the copy part of Ubuntu studio was sufficient. Will install it myself. Thanks!
If I’m not mistaken…
KX Studio used to provide Ardour versions sourced from ardour.org but not for many years now, AV Linux provides the full ardour.org bundles wrapped in the Debian Package format but only per ISO release. Beyond that I’m not aware of a way to get the supported binary bundles from any Distribution. Flatpak and Snap should be avoided unless you want to put your Plugins in a completely non-standard location.
