Flatpak-problem

Dear community,
I installed Ardour in Linux Mint Cinnamon as a flatpak. Unfortunately, I can’t change the paths for VST instruments, for example. I tried changing permissions with “Flatseal,” but to no avail. Does anyone have any other ideas? Or should I use the “package version” instead? Unfortunately, that’s only version 4.1 in Linux Mint.
Thank you very much!

I have found a solution, i installed the .deb version…
is this possible?

Flatpak is provided by a 3rd party, so you have to ask them to provide support.

Yet what you have found is expected. Flatpak software is sandboxed: it cannot access system-wide resources (unless you specifically configure this).

In short: If you use the flatpak’ed version of Ardour, all the plugins also need to be installed as flatpak.

For software that relies on 3rd party plugins, like DAWs, a native install (.deb or official binary) is preferable.

Are there any “problems” with the .deb version compared to the mint-included package?

The mint included package is actually based on a .deb, as linux mint is debian or ubuntu based, depending on which one you chose, and they both use .debs. However, like in all linux distributions, the package is built by the distro maintainers and not by the Ardour developers. The official binaries are. So, to sum up your question, if you want the better maintained and supported version, you need the subscriptions binaries. However, your distros packages should work just fine. The other thing that usually happens is that the distro versions tend to lag behind. You will probably have to wait some time for them to be updated to the newest version, depending on your distro.
Id suggest you go ahead and try the package offered by mint, and wouldn’t recommend any audio app running on flatpak for the reason Robin stated.

I installed the .deb Version. In the packet manager ist shown Version: 1:8.4.0
is this ok, or should i deinstall this and take the version of Mint Cinnamon?

edit: i have seen now, that the version in the paket manager is the same as in the .deb version…
i de-installed the .deb version and now it is the same Version…
