Feature request: show automation on same channel as selected note

Not sure if that has been suggested before, but without an MPE overlay to the note, such as tracktion or bitwig, it would be extremely helpful if there where an Option to filter automation tracks matching selected note midi channel.

the pianoroll already does this, and the 9.3 version will do it better (separate lanes per automation/controller).

for the main timeline right now, there is no concept of the “selected midi channel”.

Cool, but that’s only ALMOST what I mean. Sorry for being a bad explainer again.

The behavior I need:
Preconditions:
A region containing MPE midi data. This means multiple notes and controller data on different channels, assigned round robin.
steps
Now I want to adjust my pressure on the second note (ie. C4, ch.2)

  • go to edit mode
  • select the note
Want: be able to directly see associated controller data, without any further steps. Or alternatively a shortcut to hide all controller data on a different channel, but the selected note.
Current situation in main view: Show existing automation will overwhelm the user with all the recorded data. The need for acrolling and searching by eye create a lot of cognitive load, killing any creative buzz.
Current situation in piano roll Better, but I have to chose a midi channel first, before being able to edit. This means guess work to find the note I want to edit, due to the round robin or random nature of the recorded data.

So in other words, first select a note, then adjust the view.

That would make MPE life much easier, even without a note overlay.

We absolutely do not even pretend to make EDITING MPE data possible (recording and playback works.

Supporing MPE editing properly is something I would imagine might show up in 9.5 or 9.7 (hand-waving estimates).

Fully understood. This here is just me thinking about how it could look like in the simplest way possible, while staying, more or less inside existing paradigms.
