emu1212m card is not working under ardour.

Hi this is my first post here.
I like ardour and been using it for smaller things on my secondary desktop and even on my laptop with only onboard soundcard. however I can not get it working under studio64 2.1 amd64 build .

I have used audacity just now to get some songs into the computer but I would prefer to be able to record multi tracks with ardour instead of audacity which records fine with these settings and the emu1212m card. so I know that at least the analog in and out works .

I would like to know if other have an emu1212m card working under linux and using ardour and what are your results with this soundcard.

Ardour does not interact directly with audio hardware, so it’s technically not a matter of Ardour supporting this or that card. What you need is for JACK to support it. This means that one of the JACK backends has to support it. For the Emu 1212m, the most likely backend is ALSA.

Here’s the current state of 1212m support on ALSA: http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/EMU_1212m

Here’s some info from someone who’s apparently got it working: http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=715755

Usually the best approach is to select a sound card based on ALSA or Freebob support, rather than getting a soundcard and hoping that support exists. For someone migrating (or considering migrating) from Windows to LInux, however, I realize that this approach is not always practical.

Hope this helps,
Don

Thanks. However this guide I already used. I can record in audacity but I can not get the card to record using jack into ardour. I realize its not an ardour problem But I had hoped someone would be able to tell about using the card with success … I will save up some money and get a other card like RME as soon as possible.
