Dropped MIDI events?

Full disclosure, I’m running on a Raspberry Pi 5 with 4 gig, just for the challenge.

I have an issue with either Ardour or JDrummer where MIDI events get dropped. Quite often I will hit a drum pad and I can see that Ardour is receiving the MIDI event, but nothing triggers. Has anyone else seen this, and is there a fix?

  • Are there any audio dropouts? x-runs (counter in brackets after DSP load top-right in Ardour’s main window)?
  • Do other synths also have this issue, or just JDrummer?
  • What audio/MIDI interface do you use, and what settings (Menu > Window > Audio/MIDI Setup)?

Synths can be very resource intense (some load all samples into memory, some resample/pitch-shift in realtime,…), in which case a RPi may be somewhat under powered.

You could also check Ardour Menu > Window > Plugin DSP load.

I had midi connections between ardour channels not transmitting data on pipewire in the past… My fix was switching to jack.
