Double click faders to reset them to 0db?

I wonder if changing this behavior to be mapped to a double click would be preferable for anyone else. I have a few layered drum samples in a group, and it’s really easy for me to throw one of them to zero and blast my ears out while trying to adjust them individually lol

Just a thought. I don’t know if this would screw up anyone else’s workflow if made default.

shift+click does this

I know, that’s why I made the post. I should have gone into more detail haha

I mean, when all tracks are in a group and the faders move together, I hold shift if I only want to manipulate one out of the group. However, because it’s easy to accidentally shift click while doing this (and I’m admittedly still adapting to Ardour), I’ve gotten an earfull of blown out kick drum a few times today. I was trying to ask if making it a double click would mitigate that, and if it was a change other people would prefer. Just a hypothetical.

Yeah to me shift+click affecting all tracks (in a disabled group or a group without gain sharing) still feels a bit wrong even after years I get bitten by it from time to time (need to ctrl+shift+click to reset gain on a single track that’s in a group huh). There is somewhat of a conflict between the shift modifier (that’s extremely useful) and the shift+click gain action. Now would I prefer double-clicking ? Damn, I can’t say…

Aye I’m liable to agree with a ‘double-click fader to reset to 0db’ function. But that’s probably just because I moved to Ardour from years of using Reaper and the muscle memory lingered a long time.

For what it’s worth, I sort of forced myself to start double-clicking the fader value and typing 0 instead of ctrl+shift+clicking the fader itself to avoid nasty surprises. Dunno if that’s a suitable alternative for you though.

Beware of bouncy mouse buttons. My cheap travel mouse can register anywhere from zero to three clicks when I press it once. You don’t necessarily know what people are using or may be forced to use.

That is fair. Maybe it could be a setting we could change ourselves, depending on our setup and preferences? Unless that’s already possible, in which case I haven’t found it.

Yeah Reaper is the DAW I used before Ardour too. Thanks for the advice tho, I’ll give it a whirl.
