I use Bitwig for it’s device modulators, devices system, and the inherent flexibilty that that workflow offers.
having those simpler devices and modulators speeds up workflow and removes the reliance on linearity of old school DAWs.
The downside is that Bitwig isn’t 100% optimised for Linux - I have driver issues, it’s Pipewire implementation gives me a headache with my specific set up and it has little bugs, like leaving streams locked so other apps can’t be used afterwards without resetting the stack. It’s a bit of a sloppy program these days.
Ardour runs like a dream (with my RME Raydat) and is only really missing modulators and that freeform routing of modern DAWs. I’d love to know if there are plans to implement these modern workflows into Ardour? Simple ‘devices’, maybe (possibly open for community-built operations) ?
