Create new midi region

I am trying to create a new midi region, where I could sequence some notes.

In the manual it says “its as simple as left clicking inside a midi track”.

When I left click inside the midi track, all that happens is that the pointer disappears and big yellow bold letters display the time value of the point I clicked in the track.

I have also tried right clicking and exploring the context menu for options that would allow me to create a midi region.

Is it possible that I have a configuration issue?

how do you get your external midi to connect so that you can record things on it and not have to draw the midi region

It seems the manual is not very helpful in this instance.

You need to use the Draw Tool and click and drag in a Midi Track to create a region that you can then draw notes into.
