When I copy a region from one track and paste it into another, the region always gets pasted on top of the region that I copied and not on the track that I want to paste it onto. I then drag it onto the proper track. My procedure is that I select the track with the region I want to copy, right click on the region, edit/copy and then I select the track that I want to paste the region into, place the cursor where I want to paste it and then edit/paste. It always winds up on top of the original region.
I can’t recreate that.
FYI, a quicker way to copy and paste that might be useful is to activate “mouse” as the edit point versus “playhead” or “marker”: https://manual.ardour.org/editing-and-arranging/edit-point/. Highlight a region and copy with Ctrl+C then just hover the mouse where you want to paste and press Ctrl+V. You don’t even need to select a track that way.
Thank you. That’s what I was looking for.
Great. To clarify, if you accidentally have a track selected, regions will always be pasted to that track so just ensure that you click somewhere in the session to de-select. Also worth noting is that having the “smart” tool activated will select tracks if you click in the top half of a track (smart range mode)
Or just hold, I think it is, ALT while dragging the original region IIRC:)
Seablade
… or press the “Escape” key (which cancels the current selection, at least by default)
CTRL here but, yes, another way to crack the nut.
Pressing “escape” key is the winner Only thing I’d say is that my left hand is on Ctrl+V and right hand on mouse so I find it quicker to press a mouse button versus stretch my middle finger to “Esc”.
