I thought it would be useful to be able to color each MIDI region with a custom color. In the sense of coloring the entire rectangular area of the region.
(Maybe it can already be done?)

Look at this link, maybe it will answer your question, but if it is to color each region independently, as far as I know it is not possible, but you can add tags to identify it specifically with a name or adjective or number etc:
"Region color follows track color: when enabled, the background color of regions in the editor will be displayed using the color assigned to the track. When disabled the default region background color will be used. "
