Awesome Nice one slash Some tasty riiffs, tight playing and juicy vocals in there.
Interesting that you recorded the whole album in the same project file…! Not seen that approach before, at least not for recording / mixing. Presumably that was to help you keep a consistent sound throughout the recording and mixing stages?
I wholeheartedly approve of the extensive use of Guitarix for the guitar and bass parts. DrumGizmo is awesome too and I think your drums sound fine for these mixes - not too brutal, not too in-your-face, they’re just there doing their thing.
Really nice to see an SM57 being used for vox too…! I’m an enormous fan of this mic and use it myself for vocals instead of a modded LDC that was actually designed for vocals. And on that note, your vocalist has a versatile voice and can hold a note really well. Somewhat operatic, in a way. Not my cup of tea generally speaking but they’re an excellent singer and fits this type of music.
For recording and cutting I had separate Ardour projects, one for each song.
And yes, the main reason for “all songs in one project” was to achieve a consistent sound across all songs. To even out the volume differences between different recording sessions / different songs, Alt-6 and Alt-7 are your friend.
I think I mentioned the story behind this already. From all mics we have, the 57 just sounds best on her voice, even better than a 58…
