Cold Whisper - Ghosts from the Past (preview)

Hi.

I just released a preview EP for our upcoming album called “Ghosts from the Past”:

Feedback appreciated, to make the final album even better.

As usual, here’s a list of things I/we used:

  • Audio interfaces / microphones:
    • Behringer UPhoria 404HD
    • SM-57 for vocals
  • MusE: for MIDI sequencing (drums)
  • Ardour 8.4 for recording, cutting, mixing, and mastering
  • Drums: DrumGizmo + The CrocellKit
  • Used Plugins:
    • mostly LSP (parametric EQs, compressors)
    • Guitarix (for bass and guitars)
    • Dragonfly reverbs

And here are some screenshots of the project.

The editor view:

The mixer view:

For this album I wanted to achieve a consistent sound across all songs. So I chose to put all songs into one mixing project and only did breakout-projects for the recordings.

Thanks and enjoy.

Deep in our century

Lovely guitar tones :+1: And I like the singing style on the verses, reminds me a bit of Mantar in bits. Awesome fuzz bass sound too, especially when it comes forward at around 4:00. I just generally like the choice of guitarix setups for this tune and the others (from the little I’ve heard so far).

Nice one Slash :+1:

Hi,

Another great production! Excellent mixes and performances… I won’t go into my standard issue rant about metal drum sounds again, instead I will just say you’ve done an excellent job of programming them…

Thanks. The rhythm guitars are mostly doubled and hard panned left/right.
Each side then contains two Gx-Amplifier plugin instances (one for the neck and one for the bridge pickup) with different settings, then blended together.
Finally, an EQ is rolling off the low-end and the annoying ~2.4kHz problem area…
