Choosing Freebob driver causes jack control to crash

Hi,
I’m using Ardour Gtk2 on Ubuntu Hardy. I’m on an HP dv9000 laptop, Core 2 duo Intel 2.7. From what I understand, to use Ardour with a Mackie Onyx 1620 via firewire, I must use the Freebob driver. (There is a ‘firewire’ option there which seems logical to select but it causes Jack to crash as well).

But selecting the Freebob driver in Jack Control causes it to crash.

My real choice would be to use Ardour with the new Apogee Ensemble via firewire, but is that too much to hope for too soon?

Many Thanks for any clarification, Frank B.

You need the successor to Freebob which is FFADO (http://ffado.org). You need to rebuild Jack from source after installing the FFADO drivers (libffado), otherwise it cannot connect.

Instructions and source code are available on the FFADO pages.

Works great on a Debian-Saffire Pro combination
