CD mastering challenge 1: FINAL ardour session and the correct method for 2 s pregap?

Ehlo!

0.) What is the most preferred way to make FINAL session in ardour before exporting to .toc and .wav files and burning to cd. Any best practice related to naming and versioning the session?

1.) The correct way to insert 2 s pregap:
a) I rudely just deleted 2 s from the beginning
b) .toc file editing and inserting PREGAP

It would be cool to have e.g. cdrdao show-toc test for the created .toc in ardour as a button before processing the export etc. ?

have you read this?

Yep, now I am still struggling with the ‘distortion’ which is introduced in the cd burning phase, see http://ardour.org/node/563

I was more asking best practice for the cycle mix-export-burn. I have found that my disk is filling with numerous wav-exports from the same ardour session/track which I keep opening with ‘open recent’. Somehow I miss versioning and log - or I am not familiar enough with this great tool to discover it myself

It would be good to have external text log for each export range and session containing e.g. :

  • sndfile-info report
  • range & session info which is not .toc specific
  • any plugins and their settings
  • any relevant track mixer settings
  • ? numerous other comments?
  • maybe some configurations?

Of course this log could be created manually, but how about having ‘rollback’ feature and get the settings as they were for the ‘midnight special export’.
