Cant open session

Dear Paul dAvies, i have a big trouble, cant open my last session, when it tries to open
Projekt-Aktionsverlauf, in german, something like, project-activity-progress, it crashes; can you help please? Thanks a lot!!!

What version of Ardour? Where did you get it from (This website or elsewhere)? What Operating System?

ardour 8 from linux mint but everything went for years fine i maybe had a wrong key comination, it suddenly crashed and now i cant open the session
anyhow thanks a lot for helping

i just tried to open the session with ardour from ubuntustudio, no chance, please, may help anyone, im very desperate … thanks!!!

So a few things:

  1. What version of Ardour8? There were some specific ones that had issues when using musical time that could cause issues. If you open it form the terminal, is there any output?

  2. Can you post the session for someone to look at?

  3. Does it still have an issue with the demo version of Ardour from this site? Every other version you mentioned are bundled by distress and might be either out of date, packaged differently that can cause issues, or both.

thanks a lot;
The problem caused ardour 8.9.32, but with now other session, it worked pretty well; and suddenly: BANG – cant open session; but i found my way: i installed ardour 8.4.0.-ds1-2ubuntu8 from my linux mint repository, and this version can open the corrupted session without problems; how strange is this?? but thanks anyhow; thanks for your work!!

So this is sounding very much like you may be running into the music time vs audio time bug. If you search around on the forums, it is possible to fix this yourself as well for the record, I can’t remember if the current release has the fix in for it to open old sessions, or if that will come with v9 though.

8.12 should have the fix for this.

Thanks a lot, dear Jmaibaum; but im really sick of all the bugs; im a professional radio producer and this isnt working fine; 8.9 often suddenly stopped during nomral hearing; this basic thinks were never a problem with ardour …

With the amount of information you have provided about your issue, no-one can guarantee that 8.12 will fix it, before you actually try. But the chance is not too bad as there was a known issue with Musical Time which caused symptoms as you were describing (sessions not loading anymore).

Just as it has been suggested before: Please try the demo version from ardour.org.
