Can't create midi tracks in Ardour 2.8.16

Hi!

I’m running Ubuntu 11.10 and updated to Ardour 2.8.16. I installed a2jmidid, but Ardour won’t let me create midi tracks. If I click on Add track/bus the option for choosing between audio and midi track is missing. I tried re-installing Ardour but that didn’t help.

Only Ardour 3 has MIDI.
