Cannot Archive Session

I have a simple session with 6 audio tracks, no plugins, I need to send to colleagues. I tried using “Archive”, but I get an error message saying simply “Session Archiving failed.” No message shows up in the terminal (from where I started Ardour).

I am running Debian Sid and the official Ardour 7.4 build.

Should I just file a bug report? (Can anyone confirm this is a bug?)

Is there anything in Menu > Window > Log ?

Oddly, enough, now I can archive… I did not reboot or change anything in the session. I restarted Ardour, but I had already done that earlier (when it failed).

I will try a few more times and see if fails again. If it does, I post what shows in the Log window.

OK, it’s happening again. The log window shows no new messages after failing. Here is whole content:

This particular session is empty of MIDI and audio… It is basically a new session with modified tempo map and location marks. (I was archiving it to submit a different bug report…)

Would it help to run in gdb? Is it just me having this problem?

I have added some additional error message in 7.4.101.
Could you try a https://nightly.ardour.org/ build (demo is fine, can be installed in parallel with other versions)?

Thanks, Robin! But I get exactly the same result. No messages in the Log Window or terminal…

Earlier today I could archive sessions with both versions, but now I cannot. The only audio related actions in between was that I closed Ardour (running with ALSA) and started Carla running with Jack to practice. When I restarted Ardour, I could not archive anymore. But it could have been a coincidence…

Edit: It does seem like a coincidence. I rebooted and could archive before and after running Carla with Jack (for a few seconds).

Perhaps insufficient space in /tmp?
The session to be archived is first assembled in /tmp/ and then zipped up.

If so, you can set the TMPDIR environment variable to pick a different folder.

I don’t think so:

$ df -h

tmpfs 3.2G 96K 3.2G 1% /run/user/1000

Also, this project I am trying to archive now has no MIDI or audio files. (The original one I was trying did have audio files, but I’ve been using this empty one to test.) So, it is really small.

That should be enough, unless you have a session with a lot of Audio files exceeding 28GB (when compressed to FLAC).
