Hi all. I’m a newbie, having rediscovered Ardour just the other day. Wow, so much has changed! So count me in as a supporter. I was wondering, can I trigger clips with midi in a track, and not “live”?
I’ve been using Mulab, which has what’s called a note action map. In it you can set up what each midi note does, then either play clips live or from a piano roll.

Mulab is modular in nature, so you’re just routing one composer to trigger clips in another. Afaik it’s the only daw that does this.
If Ardour doesn’t do this, it’s not a problem at all as Mulab is also a vst, so I can do this from the plug inside Ardour. Good day all-
There are ways to do it, but they are quite complex to explain. There are videos about the full technique, as used by Elise Trouw with Ableton Live. Worth watching.
However, also note that you can play scenes in Ardour using timeline cue triggers, so if you have only 1 clip per scene, or want all clips in a scene to play, this is really simple and documented: The Ardour Manual - Mixing Linear and Non-Linear Workflows
Nice, not one but two options. I’ll be looking into both. Thanks for the quick response Paul. Ardour is quite the accomplishment. I’ve some learning to do, but everything I’ve seen so far is intuitive and non-intimidating. Have a good one-
Please don’t get Paul going about what he thinks about “intuitive” as a software design goal.
