I have been trying to figure this out myself, but I can’t understand how to get a working side-chain to my kick drum in Ardour.
Can someone please instruct me on how to get an EDM side-chain effect?

Are you using Ardour 5? Compared to version 4, sidechaining is now a lot easier.
