Bundled Limiter Plugin

Hi Ardour peeps,

I am looking for responses to see roughly how many users are interested in a bundled Limiter plugin for Ardour, as it currently doesn’t have one.

If you are interested, I urge you to test and compare swh’s lookahead limiter with my ZaMaximX2 from zam-plugins.

These are the main two options I see as valid for such a plugin.

Any other suggestions welcome.

PS:
You can find zam-plugins either on my website @ http://zamaudio.com or you can download the source at https://github.com/zamaudio/zam-plugins if you prefer to compile them yourself.

I think it would be a great addition. I’ve always been happy with your ZaMaxim but swh lookahead is good as well, I don’t think I’ve directly compared them though. I’ll try to give it a try this weekend and provide some feedback.

yes we do need that! Love your plugins.

There doesn’t seem to be any documentation to explain what the ceiling and threshold levels mean.
I guess the “ceiling” control sets a brickwall limit value (infinite compression), and the “threshold” control sets a lower threshold for a compressor of finite compression ratio. Is that right?

anahata: It’s not too easy to explain in text, but see this video for an explanation of maximizers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTk_AT_ccnQ

Going to put my vote in for the ZaMaxim. I really like the sound and I use it on pretty much every master bus these days.

I´m increasing the % of use of all zamaudio plugins on my Ardour templates and I have to say yes, ZaMaxim would be great.

Offtopic: Maybe saturator would be necessary too with kickdrum or bass tracks and dynamics zamgate and zamcomp are the fastest and easiest way to mix bus tracks.

@zamaudio: Did anything ever result from this conversation? Only this morning I was adding to a thread about cross-platform basic plugins and realized there isn’t an “a-limiter” included. Yes, there’s @x42’s free digital peak limiter but it would be nice to have a complete basic set of plugins on first install. Your ZaMaximX2 sounds like a perfect fit (with generic GUI, of course).
