I was wondering what is the best/fastest/most efficient way of finding and then inserting an instrument plugin/creating MIDI track, ideally from the Editor.
There are a few methods to achieve this but to me each has pros/cons.
Add Track Dialog
-Can be achieved in main Editor window
-Seems to be the most convenient approach (but not really convenient)
-Shows list of all instrument plugins
-Requires opening “Add Track” dialog box
-(If any other categories selected) have to select “MIDI Tracks” from sidebar
-Requires use of a long drop down list (depending on how many instrument plugins installed)
-Has no filter field
-Has no find as you type popup field
Create General MIDI Track Then Replace Plugin
-Plugin Selector has a filter field
-Can create just a General MIDI track and then use context menu flyouts
-Have to navigate through flyouts to get to Plugin Selector
-Have to deal with popup dialog to “replace” instrument plugin
Mixer - Sidebar - Search / Favorites
-Does have a filter field
-User has to switch pages from Editor to Mixer each time want to achieve
-Does not show list of instruments so user would need to know what to search for
-User would have to have instrument plugin set as a “Favorite”
-Instrument plugins would be mixed in with Effects if using “Favorite” section
-List cannot have focus and be navigated using keyboard (mouse only)
-Then have to drag item into blank Mixer space to create track
Does anyone know if there are any other methods was to achieve this?
